The Ashtanga Primary Series is called Yoga Chikitsa, meaning yoga therapy, because of the cleansing and toning effect it has on both body and mind. On a physical level the asanas (poses) of the Primary Series build strength and flexibility in the body, loosening tight muscles and realigning and detoxifying the body and nervous system. The series begins with forward bends, then twists and hip openers with a vinyasa between each asana.
On a mental level, through regular practice focus, willpower, mind-body awareness and confidence are improved as we overcome the mental obstacles to our practice. On a subtle level the Primary series works therapeutically to clear obstacles in the energy channels in the body (known as Nadis).
This clearing of obstacles allows the Prana to flow more freely so the body and mind are therefore allowed to work more effectively.
We will work on half primary series which is suitable for beginners, offering plenty of modifications for progression.
Yoga for all - Beginners Yoga
This is a yoga class which concentrates on physical health and mental well-being. This Hatha yoga will use over 40 bodily postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation techniques (dyana) with the goal of bringing about a sound, healthy body and a clear, peaceful. We will work to links the postures practiced into a sequence of movements that “flow” with the breath. Emphasizing breath and body alignment, this class will improve strength, stamina, and flexibility while having fun in the flow.
An energetic complete flowing class suitable for all levels of practitioners. This breath-based practice promotes self awareness and self care.
This popular class is based on the belief that mental and physical health are interrelated, and should be conditioned together. This class attempt to coordinate breathing and physical movement, improve focus and concentration, and help participants regain control of their body and mind.
Mindful & Gentle Yoga for Limited mobility
Practice yoga knowing age is just a number and acceptance of yoga philosophy to connect into your practice, as the body gets older, it’s important to keep moving and keep the joints mobile.
Yoga is perfectly safe for older people - its benefits can be felt at any stage of life. Yoga is particularly effective at targeting physical problems which can arise later in life, from healthy bones to flexibility to anxiety relief. It's even been suggested that yoga can prevent osteoporosis.
